Peter Irving
I have been teaching in various disguises for 53 years overall.
Starting at Melville primary with standard 2 for a year in 1971. Then on to Rhode Street Primary and after 2 years moved to Peachgrove Intermediate with mostly year 7s. After 17 years there I worked for CCS (Crippled Children Society) tutoring computer use and have been teaching adults since 1991 tutoring adults and children with disabilities how to use computers.
After 5 years I joined a computer company focusing on schools and after this finished I went back to relieving in various schools and looking after IT in some schools. In 2001 I went long term relieving at the then Melville High School as an IT teacher for a year. As a result of this I started doing day and term relief at MHS and carried on relieving in other schools until 2004 when I started taking a Saturday morning Furniture Restoration class at MHS until the Government decided to stop funding in this area in around 2009. Subsequently I began again at Fraser High on invitation from my ex-head of hard materials dept. from Melville High who was working at Fraser in around 2014. Here I am 10 years later still beavering away and learning more about woodwork!
I really enjoy my students transformation over the 8 weeks to a person who can use appropriate machinery with confidence and the ability to produce what they wish to make.
