Tutor: Kay Hickman
Come along on Wednesday nights and we will brush up on sewing basics:
Some topics we’ll cover are:
Sewing techniques and terminology
How to thread up and use a machine
Stitches- how to adjust them and which to use where
Making accurate measurements, cutting out fabric and following a pattern
Know your fabrics- how they behave and matching fabric to project
Shop for suitable fabrics (from either op shops or retail shops)
Using and maintaining an iron
Each night the aim will be to complete a simple item that practices aspects that you are
learning.
We will start with easy achievable items and build up to making a simple useful garment by
the end of the term.
My aim is that at the end of this course you will have found the joy and satisfaction that
creating with fabric brings, and to build confidence to continue sewing on your own.
